A sign-up fee is a one-time charge you can add to a recurring membership. It is collected together with the member's first payment. Monthly or yearly renewals are not affected.
Where to find it
Go to Products, then Memberships, and open or create a membership. Sign-up fees are only available on memberships set to Recurring subscription (not one-time seasonal memberships).
Setting the fee
- Open the membership form (create new or edit existing).
- Under the membership price, turn on Charge a sign-up fee.
- Enter the one-time fee amount. This is charged once, together with the member's first payment.
When the fee is charged
- When someone subscribes for the first time
- When a former member subscribes again after cancelling
- When a member reactivates after their membership has lapsed
The fee is not charged on automatic renewals or when a member only updates their payment card.
What customers see
If a sign-up fee is set, customers see it on the membership card, in the checkout summary, and on their receipt as One-time fee, listed separately from the recurring price.
Changing the fee on an active membership
Most membership settings are locked once you have active members. The sign-up fee is an exception. You can change it at any time, and the new amount only applies to new members. Existing members are not charged again on renewal.
